SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) -

The newly-renovated San Augustine County Courthouse has another piece of artwork about its legacy to hang on its walls.

At Tuesday's Commissioner's Court meeting, long-time San Augustine resident Glenda Harrison bestowed her award-winning mixed media art piece to the county.  Harrison, a military widow, had taken a picture of the county courthouse and used a scanned image of Davy Crockett and Sam Houston, two legendary Texans, who also had a direct impact on San Augustine County.

Harrison named the piece, "History shines through in San Augustine."  She entered the artwork in the Mixed Media Art Contest hosted annually by the San Augustine Main Street Program.  And she won for her category.

"After the contest, I took the piece home and it laid around.  And it seemed like those two guys (Crockett and Houston) were saying to me, 'We're not the kind of folks that would lay around the house. We need to be out in the community,'" Harrison shared with the commissioners and other attendees.  "I want to send it and give it as a part of Woody's (Harrison, her late husband) legacy because it was created why he was still here and he loved it.   And he thought it should be out in the community," she explained.

No decision has been reached as to where to place the artwork.
